Long before blogs and 24-hour cable news with talking-head spindoctors, political warfare took place primarily on the street. The most potent weapon was the campaign poster. Via lautgeben.de the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung has images of campaign posters in Germany since 1949. Viewing these is an interesting lesson in German political history. I found it particularly interesting how the right-wing parties consistently use images of fear in their posters. Also, it is fascinating to see campaign propaganda from political parties like the Deutsche Friedensunion that have long since vanished.
