Where do disgraced German politicians go to rehabilitate themselves? Why, the United States, of course. That is apparently where the "cut and paste baron" Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg is headed for a "sabbatical", before making a political comeback in Germany:
The family will likely move to the US or London in time for their daughters to begin the next school year in the fall. But the former minister's many contacts in Washington make the US a more likely destination. He is known there as an advocate of US-German relations after taking part in a number of trans-Atlantic exchanges and holding high-profile talks at think tanks.
Washington DC is a friendly environment for plagiarists. Baron zu Guttenberg can hang out with the Vice President, schmooze with famous historians, or write pieces for The New Republic and The Washington Post. And, to keep busy for two years and burnish his image, he may want to move north to Massachusetts to consider a guest lecturship at Harvard University.
In any case, we will welcome Gutti with open arms and help him pave the way for a triumphal return to Germany, where he can take his rightful place as Kaiser Chancellor.

The day he returns and starts a new movement, I will be tempted to quit my job and join up 🙂
Think of the possibilities. A man with such appeal, initiating a wave to wash away decades of dust..
Though one should not buy when he can steal, Gutti should have a look at these great offers: http://www.consultingdigital.com/doktortitel.php

He is just a few dollars away from qualifying for a climate change denial group.
He could return to Germany as H.E. Arch Cardinal Dr. of Apologetics Baron Gutti, Laird of Camster, Consul of Woombatoomba.
Excellent links, David.
Perhaps a case could be made that the US is more tolerant of plagiarism (in the sense of being less willing to pass or enforce laws against it) due to our tradition of radical free speech?
JiM, I insist you recognize the greatness of my free speech by calling me Dr. Strahler.
Make that Dr. von Strahler.
