Donald Trump showed that he is firmly aligned with Germany's pro-Putin political parties – The Left Party (Die LINKE) and the far-right Alternative for Germany Party (AfD) – in renouncing the NATO alliance that has secured peace and prosperity for Western nations for over 70 years. He made his views very clear in a interview on Wednesday:
Article 5 is the provision in the NATO treaty under which an attack on any one member is treated as an attack on the whole alliance, triggering an automatic collective response. And it is a provision that Donald Trump cast into unprecedented doubt in a Wednesday interview with The New York Times, in which he said he would defend the Baltic states against a Russian invasion only if he deems that those countries have “fulfilled their obligations to us.”
Most tellingly, the Trump camp exerted its influence on the GOP Platform by throwing the Ukraine under the bus:
Despite the danger to our national security, Donald’s advisers (some of whom, including Donald’s campaign director, Paul Manafort, have ties to allies of Putin) successfully weakened the Republican Party’s platform with respect to Ukraine, reneging on a promise to provide aid to the Ukrainians in their struggle against Russian aggression.
Just talked to GOP congressman who said most under-covered story of convention is how Trump aides changed GOP platform to be more pro-Putin.
The Kremlin is beside itself in its support for the Trump campaign:
The evidence of Trump’s unseemly affinity for Putin is extensive but circumstantial. Yet the most disturbing explanation for the evidence continues to get more plausible. Today, Josh Rogin reports, the Republican Party officially altered its platform on Ukraine and Russia. The previous platform advocated “providing lethal defensive weapons” to Ukraine, reflecting the virtually unanimous position of the Republican Party Establishment. Trump staffers prevailed on the Platform Committee to replace that language with a milder endorsement of “appropriate assistance.”
Given how little attention Trump has paid to the substance of the platform, the intervention is striking. At the very least, it suggests that the candidate’s extensive, fulsome praise for the Russian dictator is more than a passing fancy. Reporters who investigate these ties are being very careful about their conclusions, but this looks really bad.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin's propaganda network in Germany has stepped up the attacks on Trump's opponent Hillary Clinton:
Hillary Clinton

At last, you’ve discovered the mote in your own eye. Who is Oskar Lafontaine compaired to the Trump?
That was a very ugly Republican National Convention. Almost makes me miss George W.Bush (only almost!)
