A smiling Vladimir Putin was triumphant in Minsk as he announced to the world the "peace agreement" he had negotiated with Angela Merkel and her colleagues from France and the Ukraine. Long forgotten are the victims of MH17 and Putin could boast about a Russian-made "Peace For Our Time", while Merkel gibt den Chamberlain:
Früher hieß es einmal, dass unsere Freiheit auch am Hindukusch verteidigt werde. Deutsche Soldaten wurden weit hinter die Berge abkommandiert und haben dafür ihr Leben gelassen. Nun, da die Bedrohung sehr viel näher gerückt ist, soll von einer derartigen Verteidigungsbereitschaft nicht mehr gesprochen werden. Lieber möchte man den Angreifer mit Gebietsgewinnen, die uns selbst nichts kosten, abfinden.
Das mag kurzsichtig brachtet vernünftig sein, es ist aber auch schamlos. Wer sich dazu versteht, wer dazu die Hand reicht, sollte sich nicht länger auf die europäischen Werte berufen. Heuchelei löst keine Probleme. So wird der Konflikt nicht beigelegt. Er schwelt weiter. Merkel und ihre Truppe tanzen auf ein Pulverfass, dessen Lunte Putin in der Hand hält.
