Fallout from War Crimes Charges against Rumsfeld

According to Deutsche Welle, the Pentagon is furious over the lawsuit that was filed against Donald Rumsfeld and other senior US officials recently.

The
Pentagon expressed concern Monday over a criminal complaint filed in
Germany against US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other
officials over the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, warning that "frivolous
lawsuits" could affect the broader US-German relationship.

The
complaint was filed in Berlin on Nov. 30 by the New York-based Center
for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Berlin’s Republican Lawyers’
Association on behalf of four Iraqis who were alleged to have been
mistreated by US soldiers.

The lawsuit may have more than just symbolic consequences:  Rumsfeld may cancel his participation in the annual Munich security conference should the investigation move forward.

I don’t think the term is furious (you aren’t citing a very good source on news from the Pentagon, DW) – more like amused.
There is no way the case could be made applicable to him.
One American party sueing another on in a German court? C’mon… It’s kabuki theater meant to make a name for CCR in Germany – or perhaps take a swing at something that just wouldn’t pass muster in a US court.
Lynn Stewart and Stanley Cohen are CCR attorneys – they tired to sue the president over the invasion of Afghanistan becuase it was “an insensetive bombing campaign.”
I think Germans who support CCR need to look a little into their motivations and lack of integrity – the examples are QUITE numerous.
No, I’m not talking about Credence Clearwater Revivial….

“couldn’t pass muster in a US court”
You are correct about that Joe N., and that is America’s lasting shame.
