German-American Blog Carnival

The most recent edition of the Carnival of German-American Relations is up, and, as usual, the Atlantic Review has done a great job of soliciting contributions in both English and German.  Although there were submissions from right-wing hate blogs like Politically Incorrect, there were also some great posts – also from some new contributors.  Some notable posts are:

  • Joerg’s piece on the EU-US Summit and contrasting views from the American and European press on the success – or lack thereof- of the meeting in Vienna.
  • Red Hot Cuppa Politics on German POW camps in Texas. The history of these camps and how the prisoners often assimilated into the local communities has always been of great interest to me.  I wrote about the German POW camp in nothern Maine last year.
  • Thomas Matterne writes about how some of the so-called pro-American blogs in Germany have discredited themselves with their rabid Islamophobia.  But here here they are merely taking their cue from overtly racist right-wing American blogs like Little Green Footballs and Michelle Malkin.
  • Apropos Islamophobia, Omar of Too Much Cookies Network has an excellent post contrasting how Muslims are viewed in the US and Germany.  While the US – as the land of immigrants – is much more open to the assimilation of Muslims, it is constrained by its Mideast policy – viewed by many in the Muslim world as hostile to Islam.
  • Finally, I want to recommend a participating blog – USA Erklärt – which explains in clear German the structure of the US goverment and the US political system.  This non-partisan blog is quite useful in clearing up misconceptions about America.

Some interesting reading over the July 4th holiday – in between watching the World Cup matches.

Well, pretty sad collection. All these ‘pro-american’ blogs are de-facto Neo-Nazis who have carefully edited out the traditional anit-semitism and fully transfered the hate onto muslims.
Warmongering xenophobes blinded by traditional racism, hyper-nationalism and the typical Anglo-Saxon stupidity from inadequate eduction.
James DeMeo of ‘orgone’ and ‘saharasia’ fame really tops off this album of nonsense.
I don’t think you Americans on your ‘happy island of fools’ have even begun to understand what is really happening.
