Take the Test

FInd out where you fit on the political spectrum by taking this test. The test is good, but I’m not sure whether it would meaningful in the context of German politics. I came out squarely as a Liberal, which the test developers define as follows:

BASIC DESCRIPTION: This group has nearly doubled in proportion since 1999. Liberal Democrats now comprise the largest share of Democrats. They are the most opposed to an assertive foreign policy, the most secular, and take the most liberal views on social issues such as homosexuality, abortion, and censorship. They differ from other Democratic groups in that they are strongly pro-environment and pro-immigration.

DEFINING VALUES: Strongest preference for diplomacy over use of military force. Pro-choice, supportive of gay marriage and strongly favor environmental protection. Low participation in religious activities. Most sympathetic of any group to immigrants as well as labor unions, and most opposed to the anti-terrorism Patriot Act.

Except for the most secular aspect ( I am a Christian), this does describe my views fairly accurately. Also, I fit in with the Liberal group in how I access the media:

MEDIA USE: Liberals are second only to Enterprisers in following news about government and public affairs most of the time (60%). Liberals’ use of the internet to get news is the highest among all groups (37%).

Meanwhile the American political pundit and Time Magazine blogger Joe Klein makes his own attempt at describing the belief system of Right-Wing Americans:

–believes that there are inferior races.

–believes that there are inferior religions.

–believes in a global conspiracy led by Jewish bankers, Hollywood executives and journalists.

–believes, despite the above, that Israel is absolutely wonderful, and that when it achieves full dominion over its Biblical lands—especially Judea and Samaria—a great battle will be fought and Jesus will descend from the clouds.

–believes that homosexuals are condemned to hell.

This pretty much hits the mark.  What Joe Klein doesn’t point out, however, is that, unlike the Liberals, the Right-Wing Americans dominate talk radio and are sought-after guests on the political talk shows on television.
