Update on Abortions and Tsunami

I read Junge Freiheit so you don’t have to – at least the online version (they don’t sell the print version in the Out of Town Kiosk in Harvard Square).  I should have known the editors would jump on the statements of Cardinal Meisner in order to criticize the response of the Central Council of Jews.  They could have critized the comments of the Green Party or the SPD, but it was Jew – Paul Spiegel, President of the Council – that they have to single out for his comments:

Grünen-Chefin Claudia Roth befreundet, forderte Meisner postwendend zur
Entschuldigung auf und legte ihm ansonsten einen Rücktritt nahe, ja drohte
sogar mit juristischen Mitteln. Kurz bevor die Kampagne das Format der
Hohmann-Affäre erlangte, nahm Meisner seine Formulierung zurück (vollständige
Dokumentation der Predigt auf Seite 14). Das Unglaubliche: Kein Politiker der
CDU oder CSU wies die Forderung Spiegels umgehend zurück und stellte sich
hinter den Kirchenführer!

Why is the German government spending nearly a billion euros to help the victims of the Tsunami when "millions of unborn children are being murdered?" the editors of Junge Freiheit want to know. 
But what really rankles is that the Jew Spiegel would dare criticize the Christian leader Meisner – after all, the Christians did so much to stop euthanasia during the NS period:

Das ist ein derartig himmelschreiendes Unrecht, das in der Mitte unserer „Zivilgesellschaft“
vor sich geht, daß diejenigen, die sich für das Recht auf Leben engagieren,
stärker auf die Barrikaden gehen müssen. Betrüblich, daß Spiegel als
Sprecher einer Religionsgemeinschaft, die auf den selben Wurzeln beruht wie das
Christentum, nicht sogar den Warnruf Meisners begrüßt, steht er doch in der
Tradition des Kardinals August Graf von Galen, der durch seine mutigen Predigten
im August 1941 dazu beigetragen hat, das NS-Euthanasieprogramm zu stoppen.

Once again, the editors of Junge Freiheit want to rewrite history.   For the true role of the Christian church in Nazi Germany, see Twisted Cross: The German Christian Movement in the Third Reich by Doris Bergen.  The church in Germany was – with few exceptions – complicit in the crimes of the Nazis.  In any event, the editors of Junge Freiheit would be delighted to know that they have a kindred soul here in the US.
