Virginia Tech Tragedy: US Right Wing Blames Victims

If you want to get a sense of the total moral depravity of the right wing in America, just check out what some of the leading  "conservatives" are writing in their blogs and in their on-line publications about the Virginia Tech massacre.  It is truly sick.

Racist commentator Michelle Malkin blames liberals and the "culture of passivity" on the college campus in a hateful piece in Real Clear Politics. Malkin joins the chorus of conservative "thinkers" in calling for every student to carry a concealed weapon.

Islamophobe Mark Steyn takes a break from screaming about the Muslim hordes to accuse the Virginia Tech male students of cowardice  – of "lacking manliness" in not fighting back  – in the National Review Online, generally cited as a reputable source of "conservative thought".

But here Steyn is mimicking his friend Nathaneal Blake at the journal of bigotry – Human Events – who asks "Where were the men?" in the Virginia Tech massacre:

College classrooms have scads of young men who are at their physical peak, and none of them seems to have done anything beyond ducking, running, and holding doors shut. Meanwhile, an old man hurled his body at the shooter to save others.

Something is clearly wrong with the men in our culture. Among the first rules of manliness are fighting bad guys and protecting others: in a word, courage. And not a one of the healthy young fellows in the classrooms seems to have done that.

And once again leading the charge is Head Chickenhawk John Derbyshire at the National Review, a self-proclaimed self-defense expert:

why didn’t anyone rush the guy? It’s not like this was Rambo, hosing the place down with automatic weapons. He had two handguns for goodness’ sake—one of them reportedly a .22.At the very least, count the shots and jump him reloading or changing hands. Better yet, just jump him.

The bloodbath at Virginia Tech is a great tragedy; for the most part, people are still numbed by innocent life that was lost on Monday.  But for the right-wing noise machine in America, this is the perfect opportunity to spread its hateful ideology.

It is but a small step from Michelle Malkin’s hate-filled diatribes, which are celebrated by the mainstream media (she is a regular on Fox News), to pure evil.

I’m not surprised at all. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. As long as fire weapons are available for everyone America remains the most brutal and repressive society in the western world.
